SMART car accident leaves one dead, two injured

 

One person was killed and two others were injured after a crash early Wednesday in downtown Miami involving a Car2Go SMART vehicle.

The accident occurred shortly before 4:45 a.m. at the intersection of Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 15th Street.

According to the scene investigation, a white Daimler SMART car that was traveling southbound on Biscayne Boulevard crashed into a silver Chevy Silverado pickup truck that was heading eastbound on Northeast 15th Street.

Killed was the passenger of the SMART car, Irina Reinoso, 22. Injured was the driver, Mila Anjelika Dago, 21, who remains hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the truck, Benjamin Byrum, 48, has been treated and released.

Investigators suspect the driver of the SMART car may have been under the influence of alcohol; test results are pending.
