Florida’s Neiron Ball makes his case as a potential starter

Miami Herald Writer

Redshirt junior Neiron Ball has emerged as a potential starter at inside linebacker.

Coach Will Muschamp noted the former unheralded pass rusher has been one of UF’s defensive standouts in camp and said Ball has made a successful transition from strong-side to middle linebacker.

“He’s been a nice find for us,” Muschamp said. “He’s been a guy who’s played on the edge since I’ve been here, but he’s moved inside, and I’m pleased with his progress.”

According to Muschamp, Ball made one of the highlight plays during Saturday’s scrimmage, blowing up a reverse and chasing down shifty wideout Solomon Patton.

“He’s very athletic,” Muschamp said. “He’s shown his speed.”
