FSU’s Jameis Winston comments on Johnny Manziel

MIAMI HERALD WRITER

In the aftermath of Florida State’s media day, redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston is receiving considerable flak for a comment he made about Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Asked by a reporter about his similarities with the Heisman winner and the potential for him to be infected with “Manziel disease,” Winston responded: “If I ever get Manziel disease, I want all of you to smack me in the head with your microphones.”

Manziel has run into numerous issues in the media and is under investigation by the NCAA for allegedly being paid for autographs since his Heisman trophy-winning 2012 season. Winston is currently battling Jacob Coker for the Seminoles’ starting job.

The Seminoles had their first two-a-day of fall practice Monday. Both sessions were closed to media. The team will practice Tuesday afternoon before conducting its first scrimmage Wednesday.
