Man found dead inside car that plunged into Miami-Dade canal

A man in his 70s was found dead inside a Honda Civic that plunged into a canal near Miami International Airport Monday morning.

Miami-Dade police are investigating what caused the car to roll into the canal along the 6700 block of Perimeter Road.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue assisted in pulling the vehicle out of the water and found the body inside.

Witnesses told police the Civic was traveling west on Perimeter Road. At a curve, the car drove off the road and into the water, police said.

It’s unclear if the unidentified driver lost control or if he suffered a medical emergency.

Police are awaiting a report from the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office on the driver’s cause of death.

The victim’s name has not been released.
