A man was fatally wounded Sunday night when a gunman opened fire on a group of people in a residential area near Plantation.
The shooting took place just before 8:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Southwest 50th Avenue, when the shooter fired into a crowd of 10 to 15 people, said Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mike Jachles.
No one else was injured.
BSO and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to a call about the shooting, in unincorporated Broward between U.S. 441 and Florida’s Turnpike, and found the wounded man on a front lawn. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooter fled in a pickup truck, and was pulled over by a deputy who spotted the vehicle. The suspect then ran away and was caught by a K-9 unit in Plantation, according to BSO.
The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was taken to an area hospital to be examined. BSO continued its investigation late Sunday into the circumstances of the shooting.
