A South Florida cabbie who came to the rescue of a fellow taxi driver was seriously hurt early Sunday in an accident involving a suspected DUI driver.
The accident happened around 5:45 a.m. when the cabbie stopped to help a fellow cabbie whose car had broke down on Biscayne Boulevard near 50th Terrace.
As the two men were pushing the disabled cab off to the side of the street, a driver who police suspect was under the influence, slammed into the cab, striking the cabbie who had stopped to help, according to Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes.
The cabbie was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital with critical injuries to his legs.
The driver was taken into custody.
Police have not released the names of the injured cabbie or the driver.
