TALLAHASSEE -- Florida State closed practice Saturday as the Seminoles donned full pads for the first time this season.
“Yea, full pads [Saturday],” coach Jimbo Fisher said after Friday’s practice.
“Won’t be any tackling though. Still aren’t going to hit the ground until we scrimmage. But we will thud, and their knees will feel better. You have to get used to carrying the [extra weight of the pads] practicing in them and the whole thing that goes with it.”
Ready to Bounce Back
Senior defensive tackle Jacobbi McDaniel hasn’t played in two seasons and has been brought along slowly so far in FSU’s camp.
But after watching McDaniel glide through the Seminoles’ walkthrough Friday, Fisher is excited about what he sees.
“It was even better than I thought he’d be right now,” Fisher said.
“He’s a good athlete. Moves well, controls his body well. If he can play behind his pads, that’s a big load now.”
He could be a load on offense, too.
McDaniel has also been receiving a little work at fullback early in camp.
