FIU got a pleasant surprise when running back Jakhari Gore joined the team for Thursday’s practice. The expectation, voiced Monday by coach Ron Turner, was that he wouldn’t be able to join the team until Aug. 26, the first day of classes.
“We let him back out [on the field],” Turner said. “Each one is on a case-by-case basis. We felt it was best to bring him in, so we brought him in.”
The cousin of University of Miami and NFL star Frank Gore transferred to FIU last year from LSU, where he originally went after coming out of Columbus High.
Also running through some drills was defensive lineman Imarjaye Albury, a Northwestern High graduate who went to West Virginia last year as a three-star recruit.
• FIU will be in full pads for the first time Friday.
