Miami’s Top 5: What you should know Thursday

 

1. Miami Lakes leaders will gather to discuss the next step to replace suspended Mayor Michael Pizzi, who was arrested this week along with Sweetwater’s mayor and two lobbyists in an FBI bribery sting.

2. Miami Dolphins’ biggest acquisition is back on the field. Mike Wallace has been sidelined with a groin injury, but he is full speed ahead at practice and says he wants to play in Friday’s preseason game at Jacksonville.

3. Swollen by heavy rain, Lake Okeechobee continues to rise — and so do worries about a possible breach in an 80-year-old dike that has been weakened by erosion.

4.South Florida will get a break on the weather, with the rain chance dropping to 20 percent. But that will shoot up to 50 percent on Friday.

5. Some politicians from South Florida are in Israel and others are preparing to go on a trip that is raising questions of influence.
