Two accidents on I-95 in Miami-Dade leave one dead, one extremely critical

One person was killed and another critically injured in separate accidents on Interstate 95 Wednesday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Killed was a pedestrian who crossed the busy highway around 7:45 p.m. near the Northwest 69th Street exit and was struck by a southbound vehicle.

The driver remained on the scene, FHP said.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead on the roadway. Late Wednesday night, all southbound traffic in the area was still being rerouted as investigators worked the scene. Traffic in the area was already heavy due to the 68,000 fans who attended popular soccer matches at Sun Life Stadium via I-95.

In an earlier accident near the Ives Dairy Road exit, a two-car collision around 7:10 p.m. left one person in extremely critical condition after they were revived by rescue workers who had initially pronounced them dead, FHP said.

Traffic in the area was also backed up for miles.
