Davie’s Town Council voted unanimously Wednesday night to lift the decades-old policy barring local stores from selling alcoholic beverages before noon on Sundays.
A final vote on the ordinance to amend the Town Code and allow the sale of alcohol as early as 7 a.m. Sundays will be taken at Davie’s next Town Council meeting.
Vice Mayor Bryan Caletka raised the issue of the alcohol sales ban at a Town Council meeting in April.
“If somebody is really set on doing it, they can get it. It’s not like they can’t drive,” he said.
Other Broward cities have already loosened local ordinances and sell booze earlier on Sundays. They include Hollywood, Margate, Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and Deerfield Beach.
Florida law allows the sale of alcoholic beverages as early as 7 a.m. every day of the week unless local or county ordinances specify otherwise.
Davie’s next vote on the issue will be at the Town Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. August 21 at the Town Hall building at 6591 Orange Dr.
