Deputies seek leads into slaying of 18-year-old inside Lauderdale Lakes home

The Broward Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday was still investigating the death of an 18-year-old man found inside his Lauderdale Lakes home Monday afternoon.

Stephen Rutty, 18, was discovered around 4 p.m. by his stepfather, Marlon Channer, when he returned to the home at 3760 NW 27th St. after work.

As of Tuesday, BSO still had not released Rutty’s cause of death, but were treating it as a homicide.

Rutty lived at the home with his mother, Channer and uncle Richard Simpson.

Rutty’s mother was the last to see him alive Monday morning. She collapsed at the crime scene after learning of her son’s death and was taken to Florida Medical Center in Lauderdale Lakes.

Simpson said he last saw his nephew when Rutty got home about 4 a.m. Monday, according WFOR-CBS4. Simpson said he saw a new tattoo on Rutty’s arm and that Rutty seemed troubled, but he wouldn’t talk about it.

“I think he was with the wrong people at the wrong time many times,” Simpson told the TV station.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Broward Sheriff’s Office at 954-765-4321 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
