What Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez calls a “misstep” in failing to anticipate the adverse reaction to a proposed tax hike in the July 27 article Miami-Dade mayor calls his proposal to hike tax rate a political ‘misstep’ is actually much more than that. It is a revelation that many of our local politicians just don’t get it.
People are really tired of the local bureaucracy with its inflated salaries and positions where no useful work is done. We are tired of seeing all the money going to overtime abuses, over-generous vacations, and super-delightful pensions. The rest of us don’t get these things. Why should we pay more into a system of employees who do?
