After a 33-year career with Miami-Dade County I proudly retired. One of the ways I continue to give back is by volunteering with the Friends of the Library’s Annual Book Sale to support special programs.
Unfortunately, I no longer feel pride when I think of the decision that County Mayor Carlos Gimenez and the commissioners made to put the library system on the chopping block.
County residents do read, children exposed to libraries at an early age develop a love of reading and people without access to computers depend on this lifeline at local libraries.
Go to the libraries, and you will see posters of Mayor Gimenez and all the commissioners proudly reading. Isn’t that ironic?
