Man extradited to Broward to face DUI charges

 

A 34-year-old man wanted for a Broward County DUI accident in 2012 that left a Florida state trooper injured was arrested Sunday in Orlando.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Derek Adam Nelson was driving northbound on Interstate 95 in the emergency lane on Dec. 28, 2012 when he struck a patrol vehicle.

FHP Trooper Felecia Andrews was investigating a crash north of Commercial Boulevard when she was hit. The patrol vehicle was pushed into the wall and into the vehicles involved in the crash she was investigating.

Andrews has not been able to return to work since she was hit.

Nelson faces DUI and reckless driving charges.

He is being extradited to Broward County.
