At Woody’s West End Tavern last Thursday, the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life showed its appreciation to the people who made the 2013 event a financial success.
Relay for Life event chair Sandra Ortiz announced the honors and awarded certificates of appreciation and plaques along with American Cancer Society community representative Vanessa Pineda.
Top Overall Team-Fundraising: 1) Rotary Club of Hialeah/Miami Springs; 2) Woody’s West End Tavern; and 3) Miami Springs Middle School.
Rookie Team of the Year: Drew’s Crew. Honorable mention: Friends & Family for a Cure.
Best Decorated Campsite: Woody’s West End Tavern.
Team Spirit Award: Team Jazzercise. Honorable mention: Team Woody’s, Campus Life, Miami Springs/Virginia Gardens Optimist Club, and Friends & Family for a Cure.
Top Individual Fundraiser: Julia Lopez-Donlon. Honorable mention: Gisela Kelly and Gail Quigley.

The hard-working volunteers brought in more than $62,000 with more donations in the works before the final tally.
