The July 16 letter Cab and sedan competition benefits everyone, is absolutely right. However, what Larry Saltzman left out is how the added competition might actually have an impact on the quality of transportation supplied by airport taxis.
Over the years, I have dreaded taking a taxi when I arrive at Miami International Airport. I live in Coral Gables, and most of the time I receive nasty attitudes from taxi drivers because they’re not driving me to Miami Beach or Fort Lauderdale. I’ve even been denied the ability to pay with a credit card. These taxi drivers make a terrible first impression on tourists and other visitors who might be staying at The Biltmore or other Coral Gables hotels. Our city officials should address this problem as well, as this situation has been going on for a long time. What happened to “Miami Nice?”
