Jim Morin’s July 21 cartoon, You get what you pay for, was on target. Miami-Dade County’s mayor and commissioners determined they had heard from the people and taxes would be flat. Perhaps they forgot about the vote for the Pets’ Trust. Perhaps they think that everyone has a computer with Internet access and e-books, therefore, libraries aren’t needed.
Our firefighters and paramedics often risk their lives to save ours. They provide professional medical care and get us to the hospital. War veterans are training to become firefighters. Are we going to turn our backs on them? Are we going to tolerate having firefighters and paramedics laid off and stations shuttered for less than 50 cents a week over a year in our property taxes?
