Miami Beach Commissioner Jerry Libbin’s quest to become the city’s next mayor is over.
Libbin, president of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, said Wednesday that he is immediately withdrawing from the contested race because of time constraints.
“I feel if I stayed in the race, I would have an excellent chance,” Libbin said. “But I’m trying to be honest with myself and I’m trying to be honest with my supporters...I can see I don’t have the ability to spend the time that it’s going to take.”
The mayoral race is wide-open this November, with current Mayor Matti Herrera Bower term-limited from her post. Libbin had filed to run, as well as current Commissioner Michael Góngora, businessman Philip Levine and entertainer Steve Berke.
