Mirta Ojito’s July 21 column, The many shades of understanding, reminded me of how many things divide us that just shouldn’t.
I was born in the United States. My father is Peruvian and his parents from Spain. My mother was born in Peru to an Argentinian mother and an Italian father.
I’m proud of my heritage, but when asked what I am I simply answer, I’m American.
Some people get offended that I do not use a prefix, so I have decided that for them I will say, I’m American-American. Let’s stop dividing this wonderful nation and all its people.
