Driver dies in hit-and-run crash on Bird Road in West Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade police are searching for the driver of a speeding SUV that struck a car and kept going.

The driver of the car died in the early Tuesday morning crash at Southwest 97th Avenue and Bird Road. A woman in the car was seriously injured, cut from the vehicle, and taken to an area hospital.

A witness told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that he tried to help catch the silver Cadillac Escalade.

"I tried to follow, I tried to do the right thing, call 911," German Rodriguez said. "I gave them as much information as possible.

Rodriguez said tools spilled from the car and onto the road.

"It's heartbreaking," he said. "A working guy and his wife."

Glass stil covers the road, but the area is open again to traffic for the morning commute.
