Man killed in hit-run crash at Hialeah bus stop; police have suspect in custody

Hialeah police took a driver in custody Monday after a deadly hit-and-run near a Pollo Tropical restaurant.

Police have charged Hanry A. Paz in connection with the crash

One man was killed and another seriously injured after a car plowed into a bus stop around 9:30 Sunday night at West 49th Street and 16th Avenue. The car then sped away.

According to reports, the 2007 Toyota Camry hit the bus stop with such force that the man who was killed was thrown through the Pollo Tropical drive-through in full view of diners inside the restaurant.

The other victim, 24-year-old Manuel Corderon, lost both legs in the accident. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

About an hour after the crash and a mile away, police said they spotted the car being towed away.

Paz is charged with leaving the scene of a crash with a death. The Camry has been impounded, Hialeah police said.

The dead man is not being identified until his family is notified.

Miami Herald news partner CBS4 contributed to this report, which will be updated as more information becomes available.
