It is so sad! A young man was killed. Another man is convicted in the court of public opinion. And many Floridians are frustrated and angry. The question before us is, What went wrong? We must admit that the prosecution presented its case well, and the defense did a good job as did the jury.
The conclusion is that nothing in this trial went wrong. Only our Legislature failed us.
The “Stand Your Ground” law has given people a license to act unwisely and to shoot to kill rather than to prudently avoid confrontation.
The law will be changed only when Floridians’ outrage exceeds the political contributions and influence of the NRA.
