It’s wasteful to shut down libraries after many had renovation projects that cost millions of dollars. Libraries are a vital community resource that let poor families give their kids a place to go after school. There are many pointless programs that have not been considered for the chopping block.
We should also be asking if the banks paid their share of local taxes for the properties they owned and to what extent we can offset the costs of library service with volunteers.
The library system has been a great investment for education and immigrant assimilation. We must find a way to keep them open to everybody.
