Recently, there has been a push to remove red-light cameras. However, many people don’t realize what the revenue generated from violations caught by these cameras helps to do. Annually these cameras generate more than $3 million for our city. Every violation provides $10 to the Ryder Trauma Center and $3 for brain and spinal-cord research.
Without these cameras, how would we raise that $3 million annually? Undoubtedly, we would see an increase in taxes. Right now, the $3 million is generated through drivers who disobey traffic laws, which is fair. Do you want to see your taxes increase? I do not.
