CPOW hosts Google+ On Air Hangouts to save Olympic wrestling

The Committee to Preserve Olympic Wrestling in conjunction with USA Wrestling and FILA debuted on July 11 a series of weekly Google+ On Air Hangouts to save Olympic wrestling.

2012 Olympian Jake Herbert was the first of several current and former Olympians as well as global wrestling leaders to educate and answer questions from fans about the Keep Olympic Wrestling movement, leading up to the International Olympic Committee’s final vote in September.

The weekly hangouts will continue to feature some of the biggest names in global wrestling who will inspire the Keep Olympic Wrestling movement.

Other individuals participating in the series include Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs, FILA President Nenad Lalovic, FILA representative and Olympic gold medalist Daniel Igali, Executive Director of USA Wrestling Rich Bender, CPOW chairman Bill Scherr, celebrities such as Billy Baldwin, and more.

• The Google+ On Air Hangout is an innovative platform that allows multiple people to hold a “face-to-face” discussion from multiple locations simultaneously via webcams.

Fans can watch the Hangout on the Keep Olympic Wrestling Google+ Page, YouTube Channel or see it streamed live at TheMat.com.

The hangouts will be a forum for supporters, fans and media to learn about the latest happenings in the wrestling community and what is being done to save the sport in advance of the IOC’s final vote in September in Buenos Aires.

The Committee for the Preservation of Olympic Wrestling was developed by USA Wrestling, whose mission is to insure that wrestling remains as a core sport of the Olympic Games.

CPOW features many highly-respected leaders within the American wrestling, chaired by Bill Scherr of Glenview, Ill., a World champion and Olympic medalist in freestyle wrestling and a leader in the Olympic family.
