Families of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman react to verdict on Twitter

SANFORD — The families of George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin reacted on Twitter after the former neighborhood watch volunteer was cleared of all charges in the fatal shooting of the unarmed Miami Gardens teen Saturday night.

Zimmerman’s brother, Robert Zimmerman Jr., said his family is relieved that the jury found George Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter. He tweeted: “Today … I’m proud to be an American.”

Martin’s father, Tracy Martin, was reserved but expressed disappointment: “Even though I’m brokenhearted I will always love my baby Tray,” he tweeted.

Trayvon’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, tweeted: “Lord during my darkest hour I lean on you...Thank you all for your prayers. I will love you forever Trayvon!!!”

The teen’s brother, Jahvaris Fulton, said simply: “Et tu America?” — a reference to the Latin phrase “Et tu, Brute?” known as an expression of betrayal.
