What do you recommend?

“I loved Schroder by Amity Gaige. It’s about a husband who loses his daughter in a custody battle and decides he’s going to steal her. It’s one of those books about people you care about making egregiously bad decisions. I also really liked Karen Russell’s Vampires in the Lemon Groves. It’s unbelievably twisted with the same sense of that dark humor as Swamplandia, but it works not just because it’s darkly humorous. Each short story is about a kid you really care about. Also good is The Curiosity by Stephen Kiernan, about a 19th man thawed from the ice.”

Chris Bohjalian, author of The Light in the Ruins and The Sandcastle Girls
