Nick Taylor fired a 7-under 65 to grab the lead with the first round of the Syncrude Boreal Open suspended by inclement weather.

Heavy rain rendered Fort McMurray Golf Club unplayable so the first round will resume on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. (ET) with second round tee times being delayed one hour.

Riley Wheeldon posted a 6-under 66 and is tied for second with Fergal Rafferty, who was minus-6 through 15 holes of his opening round.

Yohann Benson, Josh Persons, Matt Jager, Joel Dahmen and David Dragoo share fourth place at minus-5.

Taylor opened with a birdie at the first. After a pair of pars, he birdied the fourth and sixth. Taylor also birdied the eighth to make the turn at minus-4.

The 25-year-old Canadian got to 6-under with birdies at 10 and 13. After Wheeldon joined him there, Taylor birdied the par-3 17th to grab the lead by himself.

Wheeldon poured in four consecutive birdie efforts from the fifth. On the back nine, he birdied the 13th and 16th to grab a share of the lead.

NOTES: Defending champion Cory Renfrew was 2-under through nine holes when play was called for the day ... Joel Dahmen had a hole-in-one on the par-3 fifth, and that was the third ace of the season on the PGA Tour Canada ... This is the third straight tour event that has been hampered by rain.
