Man gets 42 years for killing woman in car

The Associated Press

A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for killing a woman while firing into a crowded car.

As part of a deal with Pinellas County prosecutors, 29-year-old Larry Joe Jerry Jr. pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder, multiple counts of attempted murder and other crimes. He had been facing a first-degree murder charge, with a minimum life sentence.

The Tampa Bay Times ( http://goo.gl/RLma9) reports that Jerry admitted in court that he fired his 9mm handgun into a car carrying a group of women outside a Largo store in November 2010, killing 26-year-old Annie Marie Conyers and narrowly missing a 1-year-old girl.

Jerry apparently believed a former girlfriend and his sister had disrespected his new girlfriend. His sister was in the car but was not hit. Jerry didn't know the victim.
