TASTE OF THE NATION

For the past 25 years, Share Our Strength (SOS) — a national organization that strives to end childhood hunger in America — has hosted its popular Taste of the Nation fundraisers in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties. This year, the events will be merged into one extravaganza: Taste of the Nation South Florida. It takes place Thursday, July 25, 7-10 p.m. at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel.

The culinary benefit will feature tastings from over 50 top restaurants/chefs from Miami-Dade and Broward counties — plus vintners, mixologists, live entertainment and silent/wine auctions.

Chef Allen Susser (Burger Bar, Chef Allen’s To-Go, Miami) will serve as event chair (he is the founding chairman of the Miami-Dade event); Restaurant chair is chef Timon Baloo (Sugarcane Raw, Miami). Local 10 News anchor Calvin Hughes will emcee.

New this year: The inaugural Taste of the Nation South Florida cookbook, with recipes from restaurants/chefs involved with SOS for five or more years, will be offered for sale ($25 each) exclusively to those in attendance at the event.

A poolside after-party will be hosted by Susser and chef Josh Capon (of Lure Fishbar, slated to open at the Loews Miami Beach this fall).

Tickets for Taste of the Nation South Florida are $125 per person; $250 VIP (includes early access and after-party).

Last year’s Miami-Dade and Broward events raised a total of $155,000. The goal for the combined gala is $160,000, according SOS SE Regional Manager Jamie Balhon.
