Top seed Tomas Berdych and Nicolas Almagro were a pair of second-round winners Thursday at the Swedish Open.

The former Wimbledon runner-up Berdych blew past Argentine Martin Alund 6-3, 6-0, while Almagro came from behind to beat fellow Spaniard Guillermo Garcia- Lopez 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 on the red clay at Bastad Tennis Stadium.

The big Czech Berdych was a Bastad finalist in 2005 and 2008, while Almagro was last year's runner-up to fellow Spaniard David Ferrer, titled here in 2010, and was also a runner-up in 2007.

Also on Day 4, eighth-seeded Spanish left-hander Fernando Verdasco got past German Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 7-5 and Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker saved four match points before upending sixth-seeded Serb Viktor Troicki 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6).

Friday's quarterfinal matches will pit Berdych against de Bakker, Almagro versus his compatriot Verdasco, third-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco against fifth-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, and Spaniard Albert Ramos versus Argentine Carlos Berlocq. Monaco was the 2009 Bastad runner-up.

The winner of this $560,000 event will collect $100,000.
