The Dallas Mavericks signed point guard Gal Mekel on Thursday, according to the team's Twitter feed.

Mekel played two seasons at Wichita State (2006-08) before leaving school early to play professionally in Europe.

In 30 games last season with Maccabi Haifa, he averaged 13.3 points and 5.4 assists.

Mekel is just the second Israeli player in NBA history. Forward Omri Casspi was the first Israeli-born player in the NBA.
