Carlos Migoya, Jackson Hospital’s chief executive, has been operating between the proverbial rock and a hard place. I am willing to increase my taxes to support the infrastructure repair and improvements proposed by the ballot measure. I also demand that the Florida Legislature accept the additional funds offered by the Affordable Care Act to reimburse Jackson and the taxpayers for the care provided to the poor.
The reason those funds were refused was because the private insurance sector wasn’t a participant. Now that Health and Human Services has approved Florida’s request to include private insurance companies in Medicaid’s managed care plans, the Legislature should accept the $20 billion that would be offered to Florida for 2014 to 2019 under the expansion of Medicaid.
