We had the misfortune on July 4, as did thousands of other people, of being the victims of a cheap stunt by Gulfstream Park. The track advertised a fireworks display for weeks in the media. We went to the track at about 7:45 p.m. Everyone still expected fireworks.
At about 8:30 p.m. they flashed a sign on the infield screen indicating there would be no fireworks because of the presence of horses in the barn area. Well, they knew there would be horses in the barn area months ago when they decided to drive the competition, Calder, out of business. They waited until thousands of people bought cotton candy, paid for attractions and dined at the track before disappointing all of the people, especially kids.
What a cheap stunt and classless act. I will remember it and can assure Gulfstream that I will not be back.
