The Phoenix Coyotes retained unrestricted free agent forward Andy Miele Tuesday with a one-year contract.

"We are pleased to sign Andy to a one-year contract," Coyotes GM Don Maloney said. "For the past two seasons, Andy has led the Pirates in scoring and been a very effective player for us. We look forward to him continuing his development this season."

The 25-year-old has appeared in eight games for Phoenix over the last two seasons without registering a point, but he has racked up 35 goals and 107 points over 139 contests for Portland in the American Hockey League.

A 2011 Hobey Baker winner with Miami-Ohio, Miele was selected as college hockey's top player thanks to leading the NCAA in scoring in 2010-11. He posted 24 goals and 47 assists in just 39 games.
