Paging ‘Mr. Colada’

 

Great July 7 piece Miami Cubans sharing culture through ‘cafecito’ campaign, on the trend of the 3:05 p.m. cafecito break. Before social media, and even before emails, at my former law firm we had the “Mr. Colada” announcement. At 3 p.m. every day, Lucy, our receptionist, would order a few coladas from a local downtown cafecito window. When they arrived she would let us all know by paging Mr. Colada on the firm’s intercom system. We, Anglos and Hispanics alike, would converge in the kitchen, down a shot or two of the black gold and run back to what we were doing with renewed vigor and a great feeling of having interacted with colleagues and staff.

    Eastern Shores flotilla is ridiculous

    Jenny Staletovich’s Aug. 24 article, Floating homes may be answer to rising seas, seems to be nothing more than a biased piece for the developers. Most troubling is that the article says there is no opposition to this concept.

  • Cop cameras needed

    Re the Aug. 22 article Mayor Gimenez wants cameras on all police: I’m a criminal-defense lawyer and former prosecutor. I defend cops when they’re accused of a crime. I’ve handled thousands of cases, but only a small fraction had video. With the videos, the truth always seems to come out. Without video, it’s your word against that of the police, and guess who wins that argument?

  • Nan Rich slighted

    Only the cynical can exult in the short shrift Democrat Nan Rich got from most of the media, enabling her chameleon-like competitor to crush her in her party’s primary. It was a disgrace shown this accomplished woman who never once has let her party down.
