Canopy Claims Management, LLC, a leading provider of property claims services for businesses, private clients, and consumers, today announced the appointment of Paul J. Posey, Jr. as CEO.

Mr. Posey, who previously was chief operating officer of Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc., will lead Canopy Claims Management as it builds a national organization serving commercial and residential clients in all 50 states and internationally.

While at Sedgwick, Mr. Posey was part of a senior leadership team that engineered the firm’s growth from a company with $100 million in revenues to the industry’s largest claims and productivity management business with revenues in excess of $1 billion. He joined Sedgwick Group, PLC in 1996, serving as corporate counsel; three years later, he was appointed general counsel of Sedgwick Claims Management Services and became chief operating officer in 2008.

Established in 2012, Canopy Claims Management saw its business grow dramatically in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Using a core management team of veteran claims executives complemented by an extensive network of claims professionals, including public adjusters, claims managers, engineers, accountants, and insurance contract attorneys, the firm has been working with more than 500 residential and commercial clients primarily in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut who sustained property losses during the event. Altogether, Canopy Claims is helping businesses and homeowners recover more than $120 million in insured property damages.

Building on its work post-Sandy, the firm has recently been involved in assisting clients with claims management and recovery services in Oklahoma and parts of the U.S. Midwest that have sustained damages due to tornadoes and flooding. Today, the company has the ability to help businesses and homeowners in all 50 states. Mr. Posey will oversee the creation of an organization that will have an extensive physical office presence in states across the country. At present, in addition to its headquarters in Orlando, Canopy Claims has two offices in New York and one in New Jersey.

“The growing number of large-scale disasters affecting businesses and homeowners in various parts of the country are raising awareness of the critical need for the services provided by Canopy Claims Management,” said Mr. Posey. “We see tremendous opportunities to apply our business model to companies in a range of industries, as well as on behalf of private clients with substantial personal and commercial assets, and consumers who want a fast, easy and economical alternative to working directly with their insurers or agents on their property insurance claims.”

Mr. Posey began his career in 1988 with the law firm of Glankler Brown in Memphis and became associate counsel in 1992, prior to joining Sedgwick in 1996. He earned a B.A. degree and MBA from Christian Brothers University, and a J.D. from University of Memphis. He serves as chairman of Leadership Memphis, has been a board member of the Workers Compensation Research Institute, and is a past president of American Association of Independent Claims Professionals.
