Paynter, trained by Bob Baffert, had a six- furlong workout Monday at Santa Anita. The 4-year-old colt is in training for a probable start in the San Diego Handicap on July 27 at Del Mar.

"PAYNTER worked great today. Looks like he might be headed to San Diego Stake in Del Mar," Baffert posted on Twitter.

Owned by Zayat Stables, Paynter covered the six furlongs in 1:12 3/5 on a fast track. It was the fastest time for the distance among 10 working six furlongs.

"Paynter worked awesome!!! Pointing for San Diego! GET READY!!," Justin Zayat posted on Twitter.

The 4-year-old won his return race at Hollywood Park on June 14 after being sidelined with health problems.

Making his first start since winning last year's Haskell Invitational, Paynter covered seven furlongs in 1:21.86 with jockey Rafael Bejarano. The colt posted a 4 1/2-length win in typical front running fashion.

Paynter came down with an infection after winning the Haskell on July 29. His elevated temperature prevented him from coming back to California or shipping to Saratoga for the Travers.

The colt has earned $989,424 in seven starts and four wins.
