Senators add Corvo

The Ottawa Senators added some veteran depth along their blueline by signing free agent Joe Corvo to a one-year contract on Monday.

The 36-year-old Corvo has skated in 689 regular-season games over 10 NHL seasons, including a pair with the Senators from 2006-08. The Illinois native most recently played for the Carolina Hurricanes and totaled six goals and 11 assists over 40 contests during the lockout-shortened 2013 campaign.

Corvo has totaled 89 goals and 211 assists during his career, which began with the Los Angeles Kings in 2002-03. Of his 300 points, 144 have come on the power play, an area in which the Senators had been seeking an experienced defenseman after trading Sergei Gonchar to Dallas last month.

A three-time double-digit goal scorer, Corvo has also had previous stints with Washington and Boston.
