Florida: Diving into the arts

If you missed Andreas Franke’s Key West exhibit this past winter, you have another chance to see the celebrated Austrian photographer’s work as The Sinking World comes to Sanibel Island. Make that off Sanibel Island. The exhibit is aboard the USS Mohawk CGC, a 165-foot World War II warship on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico about 28 miles offshore. For this project, Franke exhaustively researched the history of the Mohawk and envisions the life of its sailors. Don’t want to get your feet wet? At the end of the underwater exhibition in September, The Sinking World images will move to the Lee County Alliance for the Arts galleries in Fort Myers Oct. 4-26.
