TV sets are about to get a little darker around these parts. Al Sunshine (his real name!) announced his retirement from WFOR/CBS-TV Tuesday. “I’ve been blessed with a great career and am very thankful for the opportunity to cover this dynamic community,” Sunshine said in a statement. “Over the past four decades, my investigations have prompted numerous local and state consumer protection laws here in Florida.”
Indeed. The Chicago native, 62, received two Emmys, one for a “Shame on You” report on illegal police parking and a second for exposing fraudulent auto insurance claims. He started his career at WTVJ in 1972.
In an email to MediaBistro.com’s TVSpy, the married father of two said he decided to retire because “CBS offered me an opportunity to continue reporting here, but were unable to agree on the terms.”
Future plans include writing, consulting and “nurturing my gray beard so it’s up to the standards of next year’s Hemingway contest in Key West.”
