Former Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Robert Deehl, who served for 50 years in various South Florida courts, died on Friday in North Carolina, two days short of his 88th birthday.

Deehl was a senior judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit Court when he recently retired.

Deehl’s family moved to Florida while he was in elementary school. His parents ran a small grocery store across from the Orange Bowl. Deehl had decided to become an attorney after serving in World War II, said his son David Deehl.

Besides his son David, Deehl is survived by two daughters, Janet Deehl Schwartz and Theresa Miller, and four grandchildren.

Services for Deehl, which will be held in both Miami and Etowah, NC., are pending.
