With the Fourth of July approaching, I can’t help but think of the gunshot incidents that occur each year on holidays. We have laws in place to prevent many accidents. Operating a car, boat or plane while drinking is prohibited, which saves many lives. Why not a law against possession of a firearm while under the influence?
I am sure many people who are normally responsible about their weapons may use them inappropriately when under the influence. Making it illegal to be in possession of a weapon while under the influence could probably prevent many bad outcomes. If they are going to drink, they need to lock up their guns and give the key to a responsible person. It’s the same as having a designated driver for their car.
