One day after receiving his first ejection as a major-league manager, Mike Redmond joked that he probably needs to work on arguing “style.”

Redmond was tossed by first-base umpire Mark Wegner while arguing a fan-interference call on Saturday. Redmond didn’t wave his arms, point his finger, kick dirt or show much of any outward expression.

“I could definitely be more animated,” Redmond said. “I think we’re all learning here. I’ll look at the video and pick it apart a little bit and see if there’s a better way to get my point across that makes everybody happy.”

Per protocol, Saturday’s starting pitcher, Jacob Turner, was given the lineup card as a memento for his first major-league hit. But Turner handed the card over to Redmond as a keepsake for his first ejection.

“I didn’t realize guys would be that excited I got thrown out,” Redmond said of Turner’s gesture.

“I mean, I would have done it 30 days ago if I would have known it was going to be so exciting for everybody.”

Jennings’ journey

Dan Jennings was “up five times and down four” last season, shuttling between the Marlins and Triple A New Orleans. If Jennings continues pitching the way he has for the Marlins, he’ll be staying put.

The left-hander has a 0.71 ERA in 14 relief appearances and, going back to last season, has allowed only one earned run over his past 26 relief appearances for an ERA of 0.40.

He’s also shown he’s not a one-dimensional lefty specialist. While left-handers are hitting just .095 against him this season, right-handers are hitting only .222.

Jennings has also been lights out on the road, where he owns a 0.56 ERA dating to his major-league debut on May 4 of last year.

Jennings has been quietly effective.

“It’s good to be quiet,” Jennings said. “If you’re quiet as a reliever, it means you’re doing your job.”
