The president of Carnival Corp.’s Italy-based Costa Crociere S.p.A., Gianni Onorato, has resigned his post at the cruise operator.
In a statement Monday, Costa said that Onorato had announced he was leaving the company immediately “to pursue a new career direction.”
“I regret Gianni’s decision,” said Costa CEO Michael Thamm in a statement. “He has played an important role in the development and growth of Costa Crociere.”
Onorato has been president of the brand since April of 2004. He joined Costa in 1986 and worked his way up to cruise product director and, in 1998, vice president and cruise operations director.
Recent history has been troubled at the cruise line, which lost a ship and 32 people when the Costa Concordia struck rocks in Italian waters early last year.
