The South Florida chapter of the National Association for Catering & Events (NACE) will host its 18th annual fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, at Turnberry Isle Miami (19999 West Country Club Dr., Aventura). A portion of the proceeds will benefit Feeding South Florida.
The theme for this year’s party is “Hollywood: Now & Then: Live the Fantasy.” Event producer is Susan Jaffe of Pieces of Dreams. The evening will feature cuisine, design and décor that was collaborated upon by local experts, plus a presentation by chef Howie “Bulldog” Kleinberg from Bravo’s Top Chef Miami (Season 3) and Bulldog BBQ and Burger (North Miami).
“This is an opportunity not only for industry professionals, but for the general public, to help feed the many people in our community who are food insecure on a daily basis — and have fun while doing it,” said Bonnie Fimiano, NACE Immediate Past Chapter President.
Through its network of approximately 400 partner agencies, the nonprofit Feeding South Florida (www.feedingsouthflorida.org) provides over 30 million pounds of food annually to almost one million individuals in need in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties.
NACE fundraiser tickets are $50 (members); $60 non-members; $75 VIP (includes pre-event cocktail hour and food). For information and/or registration, call 954-349-1030 or visit www.southfloridanace.net.
ZEIDY’S JOINS BUBBY’S
There’s a new men’s gift shop in Miami Beach called “Zeidy’s” (Yiddish for “Grandpa’s”) at 450 West 41st St. (next to the Forge restaurant). It sells gifts and gadgets including sailboat replicas, miniature toy cars, designer watches and wine accessories, as well as neckties, cufflinks and leather wallets.
Owners are Natan and Fanny Brach, who also own “Bubby’s” (Yiddish for “Grandma’s”), just two doors from Zeidy’s, since 2009. Bubby’s, which sells accessories for women and children, also has stores in New York and Atlanta.
Natan Brach, 61, is a partner of Stonehenge Ltd., one of the first major neckwear manufacturers to transpose artwork onto neckwear, including the works of Grateful Dead guitarist/vocalist Jerry Garcia and late jazz trumpeter/composer Miles Davis.
Married for 37 years, the couple (who live just around the corner from their stores) has 9 children and 24 grandchildren.
Regular hours for both stores is Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
