Andretti Autosport dominated Friday's qualifying for the IndyCar Series race at The Milwaukee Mile, with all four of its drivers finishing in the top-five.
Marco Andretti won the pole for Saturday's 250-mile event at Milwaukee with a two-lap average of 170.515 mph. Andretti will share the front row with his teammate, James Hinchcliffe, who qualified at 170.418 mph.
It's the second time Andretti has won a pole at Milwaukee. He claimed his first career IndyCar pole here in 2008.
"So far, that was about as good as we could run, so I'm pleased," Andretti said.
There have been seven different winners in the first eight races this season, but Andretti, who is presently second in the point standings, has yet to score a victory this season. Hinchcliffe is the only driver with multiple wins (St. Petersburg, Fla. and Sao Paulo, Brazil).
"Don't tell Marco, but the outside is way better on the start," Hinchcliffe said. "That is what I was going for."
Will Power from Team Penske prevented Andretti Autosport from sweeping the top four starting positions. Power will start third after qualifying at 170.212 mph. He started on the pole for last weekend's race at Texas Motor Speedway.
"I thought we might have enough for pole today, but I made a little mistake on the last lap, and we just missed it," Power said.
Andretti drivers Ryan Hunter-Reay, the defending IndyCar champion, and E.J. Viso qualified fourth and fifth, respectively. Hunter-Reay won last year's race at Milwaukee. It was the first of his four victories during his title season.
Sebastian Saavedra, Tony Kanaan, Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud and rookie Tristan Vautier completed the top-10.
Helio Castroneves, who grabbed the points lead with his win at Texas, will start 18th, one spot behind four-time series champion Dario Franchitti. Castroneves currently holds a 21-point advantage over Andretti, while Hunter- Reay trails by 27.
"Wow, that was a tough qualifying, one of the toughest of my career," Castroneves said. "We have a little of work to do in the race, but we'll be ready and hopefully fight for our first win in Milwaukee."
