Garcia doesn't make weight, loses title

The Sports Network

Mikey Garcia lost his WBO featherweight title ahead of his Saturday night bout against Juan Manuel Lopez.

Garcia failed to make weight on Friday for the fight at American Airlines Center. He tipped the scales at 128 pounds, two over the requirement limit.

Lopez, who weighed in at 125 1/2 pounds, will take the title if he is victorious. If he loses, the belt will become vacant.

Garcia (31-0, 26 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Orlando Salido on Jan. 19 to grab the title. Lopez (33-2, 30 KOs), who will participate in his 12th championship bout, knocked out Eugenio Lopez in the second round on April 20.
