Customers at Shuckers’ frantically called 911 Thursday night pleading for help for those who fell in Biscayne Bay after the eatery’s deck collapsed.
“Please, there’s an emergency here... the whole deck fell into the water and I don’t know if people are OK!” one female patron, among the first callers starting at 9:45 p.m., told a Miami-Dade fire rescue dispatcher, who quickly realized the severity of the call.
“I’m at Shuckers. There’s at least 100 people in the water and other people are going to help them!” another woman said.
None of the callers on the 911 tapes released Friday afternoon were among those who fell in the water.
In the background of each call, people are screaming, an indication of the initial panic after the collapse as the crowd at the popular bayside eatery watched the Miami Heat vs. the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
